Why do so many people believe the sky is blue because of the ocean?

I've seen this question on here as recently as today, and the majority of people answering say the ocean is blue and it reflects off the sky, hence a blue sky. I give the right answer and get thumbs down from these morons. The reason the ocean appears blue is the reflection of the sky. Water is colorless. The sky appears blue because as sunlight enters our atmosphere it collides with the oxygen and nitrogen atoms. The color with the shorter wavelength is scattered more by this collision. Because violet and blue are the shortest wavelengths the sky appears to be violet / blue. But because our eyes are more sensitive to blue light than they are violet light, we perceive the sky as blue. Your answer is logical with references to back it up. I don't know why people would give you thumbs down. In the Religion Spirituality catagory people would answer: Because God said so that's why the sky is blue. Stick with science, you'll go far!

it doesn't matter what answer you give, I have seen thumb downs across the board many times, some jerks just like to do it regardless. so I learn not to take it personal.

They have it backwards. The ocean gets its blueish color from the sky. Well, the naturally clear water at least. If someone doesnt want to check out your references, then they must not really want to know the correct answer. So if that is true, then you really have no way to get through to them, cus they basically dont want to know.

I think your reasoning is great. People at church also say that the ocean is blue because of the sky too. they say its how God created it. to make it peaceful i guess.

I think maybe you got thumbs down becuase you are still wrong in your answer. Water is NOT colorless. It is also blue for near the same reason the sky is blue.
